Funding Round and Valuation
This Monday, the global payments and financial services platform, Airwallex, closed a new Series G funding round of $330 million, boosting its valuation to $8 billion. This valuation represents a 30% increase compared to its previous funding round. The investment was led by Addition, with significant participation from key investors including T. Rowe Price Associates and Activant, alongside continued support from Robinhood Ventures. The substantial involvement of these investors underscores strong confidence in the company’s long-term market position and future prospects.
Operating Performance and Strategic Expansion
The increased valuation is supported by Airwallex's robust operating performance throughout the current year. This performance includes annualized revenue exceeding $1 billion, marking a 90% year-over-year growth. Furthermore, the company's transaction volume has doubled, surpassing $235 billion. Complementing this financial success, Airwallex has announced a significant strategic expansion: the establishment of its second global headquarters in San Francisco, in addition to its existing base in Singapore. This strategic decision places the company at the nexus of financial innovation and AI talent within the United States.
Future Investments and Agentic AI Focus
Looking ahead, Airwallex has outlined substantial plans for its U.S. presence, programming an investment exceeding $1 billion between 2026 and 2029. This investment will also fuel a significant expansion of its global workforce, aiming for an increase of over 50%. A central pillar of this future strategy is a major shift towards Agentic AI. The company is actively developing specialized AI agents designed to automate complex financial workflows, such as expense management. The ultimate goal of this initiative is to facilitate the creation of fully autonomous corporate finance departments.
