Binance Co-CEO Yi He has announced a BNB airdrop for users who incurred losses from memecoin purchases following the hacking of her WeChat account. The incident involved her account being compromised and used to promote a memecoin named Mubarakah, which subsequently experienced a significant price surge.
Details of the Hack and Subsequent Actions
Yi He revealed that her WeChat account, which she does not use frequently, was hacked early in the morning. Malicious messages posted from her compromised account led some users to blindly purchase the promoted memecoin, resulting in financial losses for them due to a subsequent price dump.
Expressing deep regret over the situation, Yi He stated her intention to personally airdrop BNB to affected users. This compensation is specifically for those who bought and sold the memecoin using Binance's private key-free wallet and the Alpha platform during the period her WeChat account was hacked.
She emphasized that neither she, nor any Binance official account or employee, would ever recommend memecoins. Yi He further cautioned that such content is not sustainable long-term and that the tokens often lack price support. She urged everyone to carefully verify online information and make responsible investment decisions.
Airdrop Details and Timeline
According to Yi He, the airdrop is intended as a one-time event. She confirmed that the relevant BNB airdrop would be completed within 24 hours of her announcement.
Yi He reiterated that there would be no similar incentives offered in the future, reinforcing the need for users to exercise caution and due diligence in their investment choices.
