BNB has secured its position as the third-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, surpassing XRP in a notable milestone for the BNB Chain ecosystem. The native token of the Binance-developed layer-1 blockchain reached $1,326 at the time of reporting, marking a nearly 30% increase over seven days.
The digital asset now commands a market capitalization of $182 billion, placing it behind only Bitcoin and Ethereum in the global crypto hierarchy. This achievement follows BNB breaking above the $1,100 threshold for the first time on Friday, setting the stage for its climb past XRP on Tuesday.
BNB Chain's growing adoption across various regions has accompanied this price surge. Kazakhstan recently launched a government‑backed BNB fund, highlighting institutional interest in the blockchain platform. The token's rise comes as BNB Chain reports 60 million monthly active addresses, demonstrating strong network activity.
The token's market cap has added approximately $40 billion since October 1, a gain that significantly outpaces the broader cryptocurrency market. Total crypto market capitalization increased by only 5.5% during the same period, while Bitcoin saw its market cap climb about 5%. Ethereum, the second-largest cryptocurrency with a $568 billion market cap, recorded an 8.4% increase in market value.
For context, BNB required more than two months earlier this year to add a similar amount to its market cap when its value stood around $100 billion in mid‑July. That level roughly matched where the token started 2025, making the recent acceleration particularly noteworthy for investors tracking momentum shifts.
CZ posted on social media Tuesday encouraging builders to continue developing on BNB Chain. The BNB Chain official account amplified analysis pointing to strong network metrics and record highs for the token. Previous reports from June 2024 suggested CZ held 64% of BNB's circulating supply.
XRP now sits in fourth place among cryptocurrencies by market cap, with USDT rounding out the top five. Both Bitcoin and Ethereum have been gradually losing dominance as alternative layer‑1 networks gain traction. The shifting rankings reflect ongoing competition among blockchain platforms for developer and user adoption.
