During the discussion, Armstrong drew a sharp comparison between XRP and the traditional SWIFT network that underpins most global financial transfers. He described Bitcoin and XRP as “networks of value,” while noting that the SWIFT system remains a “network of information.”
In practical terms, that difference means SWIFT only sends transaction messages between banks, leaving the actual movement of funds to occur later through manual or delayed processes. While SWIFT sends messages, XRP solves the problem of liquidity, increasing the speed and efficiency of the overall system.
“When something is happening on the SWIFT system,” he said, “it’s always got to come in on the back end and do all the work.” Armstrong went on to highlight the frustration many businesses face when transferring money internationally, pointing to time zones and manual verifications as key causes of settlement delays.
