Grayscale Files S-3 with SEC for Zcash Trust Conversion
Zcash (ZEC) has experienced a significant upward trend since October, and a major development has occurred for the cryptocurrency. Grayscale has filed S-3 documents with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to initiate the conversion of its Zcash Trust product into a spot Exchange Traded Fund (ETF). This move by Grayscale positions it to be the first firm to offer an ETF product that tracks Zcash.
Grayscale also announced on the X platform on October 2 that the Grayscale Zcash Trust was opened for private placement, making it accessible to eligible accredited investors. The Zcash protocol, which launched in 2016, was recognized for its potential by Grayscale, leading to the establishment of the Grayscale Zcash Trust (ZCSH) as a private placement in 2017.
Grayscale's Vision for Zcash and Privacy in Digital Assets
In their announcement, Grayscale stated, "We have filed ZCSH Form S-3, a key step required to launch the first ZEC ETPs." The company highlighted Zcash's capabilities, noting that it provides on-chain privacy and selective disclosure through shielded transactions powered by zk-SNARK technology. Grayscale further elaborated on the importance of privacy in the cryptocurrency space, observing, "As privacy becomes a core element across cryptocurrencies, we see ZEC as a key contributor to a balanced digital asset portfolio."
Broader Trend of Trust Conversions to ETFs
This initiative follows Grayscale's recent efforts to convert several of its trusts into ETFs. In the previous month, the company successfully converted trusts tracking XRP, Dogecoin (DOGE), and Solana (SOL). This broader strategy of converting crypto trusts into ETFs began after Grayscale launched a Bitcoin ETF, following a legal dispute with the SEC.
We’ve filed the ZCSH Form S-3 – an important step required to launch the first ZEC ETPs.
Zcash launched in 2016. Seeing the potential of the Zcash protocol, we launched Grayscale Zcash Trust (Ticker: ZCSH) as a private placement in 2017.
