This December marks a new phase for Beldex with the upcoming Obscura Hardfork. This upgrade is designed to ensure smooth performance, stronger security, enhanced scalability, and compatibility with future updates.
For a seamless transition, all masternode operators are advised to update to the latest version of the Beldex binaries (v7.0.0). Timely updates are essential for maintaining consensus, preventing desynchronization, and ensuring that every node benefits from the update.
The Obscura Hardfork is a key milestone in Beldex’s trajectory, improving transaction efficiency by reducing proof size. This contributes to faster proof verification and helps curb the increase in blockchain size over time, leading to better scalability, lower participation barriers, and long-term sustainability. Bulletproofs++ Upgrade Overview
One of the major upgrades brought about by the Obscura Hardfork is the replacement of existing Bulletproofs with Bulletproofs++. Bulletproofs are effective range proofs because they scale logarithmically with the number of outputs rather than linearly. They allow nodes to verify that spent outputs are within a valid positive range without revealing the transaction amounts. This means that even when proving many outputs, the overall proof size only increases marginally.
With Bulletproofs, multiple outputs can be proven together, which is why they are also known as aggregate range proofs. The size of Bulletproof transactions is typically 600-700 bytes per output, a significant improvement over previous range-proof schemes which often required 4000–6000 bytes. Bulletproofs++ further reduce proof size, with BP++ transactions being approximately 38% smaller than equivalent BP transactions.
Bulletproofs++ Implementation in Beldex
The block size in Beldex is dynamic, with a lower and upper limit of 300 kB and 600 kB, respectively. Larger transactions using Borromean range proofs or standard Bulletproofs could easily fill Beldex’s block capacity, restricting scalability and throughput. While the PoS consensus aids in faster block verification, long-term scaling necessitates efficient proofs like Bulletproofs++.
