Trezor, a company recognized as a pioneer in the hardware wallet industry, has announced the launch of its new-generation hardware wallet, the Trezor Safe 7. This innovative device introduces several industry firsts, including a fully auditable secure element named TROPIC01 and a quantum-ready architecture. The unveiling of the Safe 7 was conducted by Trezor's CEO, Matěj Žák, during a live event in Prague titled Trustless by Design (TBD).
At the heart of the Trezor Safe 7 is TROPIC01, which is highlighted as the world's first transparent and auditable secure element. In contrast to traditional secure elements that operate with undisclosed architectures, TROPIC01 allows the broader community to inspect, verify, and validate its design. This innovative approach aims to address a persistent challenge in cryptocurrency security: the reliance on proprietary hardware without transparency into its internal workings. The new wallet also incorporates seamless mobile connectivity, enhancing user convenience for managing cryptocurrencies securely from any location.
Built for the Future: Quantum-Ready Architecture
The Trezor Safe 7 is equipped with a quantum-ready architecture, signifying its capability to support quantum-secure updates. This feature is designed to maintain the device's integrity and trustworthiness over an extended period. Should blockchain networks eventually transition to post-quantum security standards, users will not be required to purchase a new hardware wallet.
Tomáš Sušanka, CTO, commented on the future-proofing of the device: “For years, I believed quantum computers belonged to science fiction, but the pace of innovation is changing that. Within the next decade, Bitcoin and other blockchains will have to move to post-quantum algorithms. It’s not a question of if, but when. That’s why we built a quantum-ready bootloader into Safe 7. When the time comes, your device can be safely updated, even in a future where quantum computers pose a threat.”
He further elaborated on the significance of this integration: “Combining this quantum-readiness with TROPIC01 sets a new standard for open, future-proof security. For us, it’s always about protecting digital freedom with tools that are secure, usable, and transparent.”
Reinforcing the Concept of Self-Custody
The Trezor Safe 7 incorporates dual secure elements, featuring the transparent and auditable TROPIC01 chip alongside a secondary EAL6+ element that is NDA-free. These elements are designed to provide comprehensive physical and cryptographic protection. Private keys are maintained in complete isolation from the host system, and all sensitive operations necessitate physical confirmation on a 2.5-inch high-resolution color LCD touchscreen.
Matěj Žák expressed his vision for the device: “At a time when convenience is pulling users toward custodians and ETFs, we believe it’s more important than ever to reinforce what self-custody really means — full control, without compromise. Trezor Safe 7 is our answer: the first hardware wallet with a fully auditable secure element, dual-chip architecture, and wireless design built for the long term. It reflects everything we stand for — transparency, usability, and trust that doesn’t ask for permission. With this device, we’re making the safest option also the most intuitive, and raising the bar for what users should expect from crypto security.”
Usability Meets Resilience and Durability
The Safe 7 wallet supports Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and magnetic Qi2-compatible wireless charging. It also features a high-resolution color touchscreen. The Bluetooth communication is secured through the Trezor Host Protocol (THP), an open-source layer that ensures encrypted, authenticated, and private connections across mobile, desktop, and tablet devices.
Users can manage thousands of coins and tokens, engage in trading, staking, and access third-party integrations through a single interface via the Trezor Suite platform.
Priced at $249, the Trezor Safe 7 is constructed with a durable aluminum unibody and a Gorilla Glass 3 display. It is IP54 rated for resistance against dust and splashes and features a long-lasting LiFePO4 battery, which offers four times more charging cycles compared to standard lithium batteries. A Bitcoin-only version is also available, catering to users who prefer a focused experience exclusively for Bitcoin.
Pioneering Standards for Crypto Self-Custody
Founded in 2013, Trezor, as the original bitcoin hardware wallet company, pioneered the concept of self-custody for crypto assets. The company empowered individuals by creating the world's first hardware wallet, an open-source device designed for secure cold storage. Beyond hardware development, the Trezor team was instrumental in co-authoring BIP-39, which established the recovery seed phrase as the universal industry standard. They also introduced the passphrase feature to provide an additional layer of robust security against physical threats.
Trezor has since evolved into a comprehensive ecosystem of user-friendly hardware and software products, serving a wide range of users from cryptocurrency novices to experts. This dedication to user empowerment extends beyond technological innovation, as evidenced by the Trezor Academy initiative launched in 2023. This program aims to deliver essential Bitcoin education to grassroots communities across Africa. Underlying all of Trezor's endeavors is a strong commitment to open-source transparency, fostering community trust and significantly shaping the security landscape of the entire cryptocurrency world.
